Intex showcased its new Dual SIM mobile phone called IN 2020 in the Indian market. The phone will support two GSM SIM cards catering to customers who use more than one phone connection.
The phone supports expandable memory of up to 2GB and offers GPRS, WAP, QWERTY, chatting, texting and torchlight features. The screen of the phone measures 1.8 inches and offers Black List feature.
The battery of IN 2020 offers talk time of 11 hours and standby time of 336 hours. Many mobile users now have more than one connection due to many reasons like connectivity issues, separating personal and professional phone numbers, travel connectivity, etc.
People prefer to carry one phone offering the feature of supporting two SIMs rather than carrying two separate devices that also cost much more. In India, most prepaid users looking for cheaper call rates opt for two SIM cards.
A research has shown that the demand for Dual SIM handset is growing at the rate of 30 to 40 percent per year. While the overall Indian handset market which is growing at the rate of 15 percent, according to the research firm KPMG.
“These handsets are amongst the fastest growing segment among handsets. This is reflected in the number of companies that sell dual SIM handsets, which has rapidly increased. Till about 18 months earlier, there were only three companies selling dual SIM phones – Micromax, Spice and Intex Technologies. Now, there are about 40 brands in the market offering these. The dual SIM handset market in India is pegged at about Rs 2,200 crore annually,” said Jaideep Ghosh, executive director, KPMG.
The IN 2020 will be priced at Rs 2,200 in the Indian market.
