Facebook closes Lite version

Popular social networking site, Facebook has announced the closure of the ‘lite’ version. The announcement was made on the official website of the company.

Users who were using the Lite version will not be directed to the main Facebook page, the post added. The toned down version-enabled users to make comments, accept Friend requests, write on people’s Walls and access photos and Status updates.

The company started the lite version in September last year in India and the United when it said that it will offer a simpler experience. It was aiming new users who wanted to learn around features of Facebook, existing users who wanted a simplified experience and for users with slower connections.

The official closure of the site was announced a day before the annual conference of Facebook F8 which was addressed by founder, Mark Zuckerberg.

“Thanks to everyone who tried out Facebook Lite. We’re no longer supporting it, but learned a lot from the test of a slimmed-down site” said Facebook said through a post on its website. The brief post didn’t offer any explanations as to why the service is being scrapped.

Two months before scrapping Lite, Facebook webpage underwent significant redesign which included changing the location of status updates and links and other most user items to more accessible places.
