Wipro Technologies plans one more campus in West Bengal
Wipro Technologies, one of the biggest IT companies in India, has given green signal for setting up its second campus of 50 acres in Rajarhat on the outskirts of the city, as per the offer of the government of West Bengal.
Wipro's Chairman, Mr. Azim Premji has visited the offered site for the campus, and attended a meeting with Chief Minister, Mr. Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee at the state secretariat Writers' Buildings. On the occasion Mr. Premji said, "We visited the site in the morning and have settled with the government for purchase of the land. We appreciate the support we have received from the state government."
He praised the plot offered to the company and informed that the land belongs to the Housing Infrastructure Development Corp (Hidco) and will be handed over to the Wipro at rate of Rs 1.5 crore per acre.
The Information Technology minister, Mr. Debesh Das has informed that the site is getting ready and the company will start working in 18 months. The payment will be made in two phases for the plot, which costs Rs. 75 crore.
Three months back, the state government has shelved the proposed township projects at Rajarhat as it cancelled land allotments to IT companies including Infosys and Wipro, which were put under allegations that the local people were forced to sell their land to the companies.
Later, the Chief Minister offered land of 45 acre to both, Wipro and Infosys for starting new centers, which was agreed upon by Wipro for 50 acres of land on October 30.
Earlier in this year Tata Motors had shifted their plant from Singur, West Bengal to Sanand in Gujrat. The vacant land was then allotted to Salim Group of Indonesia. The work on the site hasn't started yet.
