Tata forms JV with Sikorsky to make aerospace components
Tata Advanced Systems, part of Tata group has entered into a joint venture (JV) with US-based Sikorsky Aircraft with the aim to create aerospace components in India.
Sikorsky is an arm of United Technologies Corporation.
In a declaration, the companies said that the components for the cabins of United Technologies' S-92 helicopters will be amidst those constructed by the JV.
This is a part of Tata Advanced Systems’ plan to enter meaningfully in this space, and to increase India's capacities in this sector.
The company is building its plant in Hyderabad, where the helicopter cabins will be pieced from fiscal 2010. The new plant for the components is likely to come up adjacent this facility in 2011. This will also create components for other aerospace original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and the production will commence in fiscal 2012.
While commenting on this occasion, Mr. Mick Maurer, Senior Vice-President of Sikorsky stated, “Sikorsky's affiliation with Tata both strengthens our supply chain and extends our globalisation effort to establish significant operations in regions where the need for rotorcraft and support is great.”
