Support Software in 6 Indian Languages Launched by Microsoft
On Wednesday, technology giant Microsoft gained some more happy fans as the company showcased a special set of tools which will allow users to enter text in their computer in as many as 6 different Indian languages, namely Bengali, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu. The tool, developed by the Microsoft India Development Centre, will soon be available as a free download for Microsoft OS computers across the country.
The support system has been developed in Hyderabad by the company's Emerging Markets Labs team, and can be used as a support system for other syllabic languages. Users will have to key in the words "phonetically" using the regular English keyboard, and the beta tool will automatically translate them into the desired language.
"There is a huge demand to consume and interact with Indian language content today", said Srini Koppolu, corporate vice president and managing director of MSIDC while discussing the new offering.
The support software's introduction has followed Microsoft's Windows 7 Hindi launch. The company has confirmed that more language versions of the new OS will soon be available.
