Sony Rolls Out World's Lightest Notebook In IndiaConsumer electronics manufacturer Sony has made announcement about the launching of its new series of ultra slim notebooks in the Indian market.

The product, Vaio X, which is said to be Sony’s answer to Apple’s mackbook, weighs just 655 grams.

The company claimed ‘Vaio X’ to be the world's lightest ultraportable laptop computer.

The sleek, aluminum-encased notebook is half an inch thick and comes pre-loaded with Windows 7 Professional (32-bit) and has 'Silverthorne' Intel Atom processor.

The company launched ‘VAIO X’ in two different models including VPCX113KG, which is priced at Rs 64,990 and VPCX117LG available at Rs 84,990.

To lay emphasis on notebook’s ' slenderness', Sony has roped in Bollywood hottie Kareena Kapoor as the brand ambassador for Vaio X. The company has decided to make an investment of Rs 15 crore in the country to market it.

Mr. Masaru Tamagawa, Sony India’s Managing Director said, “We have roped in Kareena for this slim and lightweight product because she is famous as being size zero. Besides, we will be marketing our new products heavily through mediums like print, cinema, radio, outdoor and online.”

“We are planning to invest Rs 200 crore across all our portfolios in India in marketing this fiscal,” Mr. Masaru added.

The company has plans to gain 20% market share (from 12% at present) in the consumer notebook section by unveiling newer products, strengthening buyer channels and investing aggressively in marketing.
