Sensex Down 262.24 Pts At 9,067.33 @ 13:35 Hrs

After a weak start, the BSE Sensex continued to trade in the negative terrain this afternoon. Huge selling action was witnessed across front line stocks.

Metal, banking and realty stocks were hammered badly.

Secondline stocks traded flat with negative bias. BSE Midcap and Smallcap index dropped 1.03% and 0.55% respectively.

Weak global markets and worries over deep recession continue to weigh in deeply on the stock markets. The quarterly results of companies have been mixed thus far.

The 30-share index, BSE Sensex opened with a loss of 169.81 points, at 9,159.76 today.

At 1:35 p.m., the 30-share index Sensex was down by 262.24 points (2.81%) at 9,067.33. It also touched a high of 9,159.76 and a low of 9,033.55.

Meanwhile the broad based Nifty declined 79.20 points (2.78%) at 2,767.00 after touching a high of 2,842.90 and a low of 2,758.00. (01.35 p.m.)

Overall market breadth was sharply negative as it saw 836 advancements as against 1,325 declinations.

There were no gainers at the BSE Sensex.

The top losers at the BSE Sensex included Tata Steel, HDFC, Bharti Airtel, Mahindra & Mahindra and Reliance Communications, ICICI Bank, Jaiprakash Associates, Sterlite Industries, Hindalco, DLF, ACC, HDFC Bank, Grasim Industries, Maruti Suzuki, State Bank of India, Reliance Industries, Larsen & Toubro, Tata Motors, Sun Pharmaceuticals and BHEL.
