Rinspeed unveils Dock+Go- rear-extension for compact electric cars

Rinspeed, Swiss automotive company widely famous for outlandish concept cars, has unveiled its latest creation, the Dock+Go system, which can be plugged into Smart Fortwo ED to add room of a full size vehicle.

The backpack for your tiny electric vehicle is actually a creation of Swiss automotive visionary Frank M. Rinderknecht, who described his latest creation as an on-demand third axle.

The Dock+Go promises to provide additional trunk space, a hot box for pizza delivery or even additional speakers and infotainment options.

The new backpack system is stylish but it is more than just style. It is a high level of technical sophistication. The high-strength, lightweight door frames come from Voestalpine- Austrian steel manufacturer, while Fibertech manufactured the extremely lightweight lift-gate insert with function integration.

Its high voltage electric heater, including the futuristic air-vents, comes from Germany-based specialist Eberspacher.

Rinspeed has plans to demonstrate the rear-extension for compact electric cars concept at the upcoming 2012 Geneva Motor Show.
