RIM introduces recycling/trade up scheme to prevent BlackBerry users from leaving
In what apparently is a move aimed largely at preventing the present users of BlackBerry devices from switching over to other competing platforms, the Canada-based mobile biggie Research in Motion (RIM) has come up with a new recycling/trade up scheme.
The scheme, which RIM has introduced recently, will essentially give the current owners of Blackberry handsets an advantage of £106 when they upgrade to another BlackBerry device. The mentioned amount will be sent to them as a cheque, by post.
However, in order to be deemed eligible for RIM's recycling/trade up scheme, customers will need to purchase any one of the following `Bold', `Curve', or `Torch' models of smartphones: BlackBerry Bold 9780, BlackBerry Bold
9790, BlackBerry Bold 9900, BlackBerry Curve 9300, BlackBerry Curve 9360, BlackBerry Curve 9380, BlackBerry Torch 9810, or BlackBerry Torch 9860.
The scheme of trading BlackBerry handsets will allow one new smartphone for one used one; and the offer will be restricted to a total of five smartphones. To avail the trading offer, BlackBerry owners will have to produce one valid proof of purchase, which should either be the purchase invoice or the IMEI number.
Despite the fact that the scheme appears to be a good one, industry watchers have already pointed out that it is actually being run by ERS Europe Ltd, and not RIM; and that some of the mobile recycling specialists offer up to double the amount offered by RIM Blackberry!
