Rail minister announces two new trains
Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee announced two new trains; the Commonwealth Express and the Technology Express on Thursday that will run across the country showing themed exhibitions.
Regarding the Commonwealth Express, she said that the train would showcase the importance of the Commonwealth Games to the youth in the country.
The Technology Express on the other hand would draw attention to the achievements of the Indian Institutes of Technology in giving quality technical educations and improving innovation in the country. The train will travel to all those cities that host an IIT. The two trains will showcase permanent exhibition galleries across various cities towns in the country.
She flagged off a Howrah-Puducherry Weekly Express called Aurobindo Express from Howrah station to mark the centenary year of Aurobindo's travel to the south Indian city under French control at that time. The will arrive in Puducherry on April 11 which is the same date on which Aurobindo first set foot in the city 100 years ago.
"Puducherry is a seat of theological learning and Rishi Aurobindo is still loved by the people. The inaugural train will be received at the Puducherry station by members of the Auroville on April 10," she said.
The train will feature a special compartment with an exhibition on the life and philosophy of Sri Aurobindo.
