Notion Inc. startup develops India’s first Android-based tablet PC
According to a recent statement made by Rohan Shravan, founder and CEO of the Hyderabad-based startup Notion Inc., the company has developed India’s first tablet PC that runs on the Google Android platform.
Built on the still-to-be-launched Tegra processor chip technology from Nvidia, the PC – to be showcased at the Lag Vegas Consumer Electronics Show in January - can also function as an e- reader.
The user interface (UI) of the 10.1-inch tablet PC, which has been developed by six IITians and an MBA, is strikingly different from the Android OS; and the device essentially targets business executives and tech-savvy Indian youth.
Elaborating about the device, Shravan said: “After the evolution of desktops, laptops and notebooks, the next innovation is going to be a complete touchscreen you can write on. And, we thought we needed to take the first step. It took us a year to come up with the design, requirements and proposed technologies to make this device a reality.”
The 770-gram tablet PC features a 3-megapixel digital camera with autofocus; video recording; Bluetooth; 3G; and 32GB data storage. It boasts eight hours of high-definition video, 16 hours of Wi
-Fi internet-surfing usage, and 48 hours of standby time.
Noting that Notion Inc. is entering into partnerships with Taiwanese OEMs to surmount numerous domestic manufacturing obstacles, Shravan said that the company is planning a commercial launch of the tablet PC in June 2010.
