Hero Electric and Electrovaya signs MOU for lithium-ion batteries

Hero Group's 100 per cent subsidiary Hero Electric would source batteries for its two-wheeler category from the Canada-based battery maker, Electrovaya under an agreement signed by both firms on 8th December 2009. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both firms is yet to take final shape which is expected within one month.

The Canadian firm and Hero Elecric would establish a joint venture company in India for manufacturing lithium-ion batteries in India for using in Hero's own products besides selling other electric vehicle makers in the domestic market.

76% Stake of NDTV Imagine To Be Sold By NDTV For $117 Million

NDTV, the New Delhi Television Ltd., has decided to sell major part of its indirect holdings in its NDTV Imagine Ltd. for a whopping $117 million. The stakes were held by the subsidiary of NDTV, the NDTV Networks plc. NDTV is to sell about 76 per cent for about $67 million and an additional fresh issue of $50 million worth of equity shares. It has been reported that NDTV was to retain about 5 per cent stake of the channel ahead of issuing the fresh shares as per the agreement with the company Turner Asia Pacific.

Multi-Million Pound, 5 Year Deal Awarded to HCL by News Corp

HCL Technologies, the giant IT firm, has confirmed that it has managed to win a 5 year long multi-million Pounds deal from Britain based New International, a division of the American News Corp, for providing "software services" to the publishing giant.

As per the deal, HCL will be taking care of News International's "data centre and network environments", all the while developing ideas to strategically and efficiently transform them.

On Back of Growing Economy, Car Sales across India Recorded Highest Rise in 5 Years

Car-SalesFor the month of November, on the back of cheaper loan rates and a rapidly growing economy, passenger car sales across India hiked the most in over 5 years, led by high demand for Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. hatchbacks and Tata Motors Ltd.'s Nano.

For the month of November, as confirmed by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, as many as 133,687 units were sold in all, which is an over 61% rise as compared to the 83,121 sold for the same month last year.

Reliance Industries Purchase an Additional 0.68% Interest in EIH Ltd.

Owner of Energy giant Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani has put in an extra 0.68% in EIH Ltd. With this, his total stake in the hotel chain has increased to 14.8%. In a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange, EIH said that the shares were purchased from the market on Tuesday.

Shares of Reliance surged 0.3% at Rs. 939.3 in proportion to the Mumbai market at 1.26pm, while EIH shares witnessed a 4.5% rise at Rs. 150.2.

On Monday, Reliance was quoted saying that it is widening its horizon and has procured 14.12% stake in EIH for a sum of $217.5 million.

Bajaj Auto Records 55% Surge in Sales of Vehicles in August

On Thursday, Bajaj Auto posted a 55% increase in its sales of vehicles. In the month of August, the Company recorded sales of 3,29,364 vehicles, compared to 2,13,072 units in the same month the year before.

Last month, 2,89,176 two wheelers were sold by Bajaj Auto, a big surge than 1,82,441 units, which were sold in August 2009. The Company’s cumulative sales of two wheelers for the time frame between April and August 2010 increased by 68% and were recorded at 1,397,348 units. The number was high from 833,235 units that were retailed during the same period last year.
