Nikon launches new models of digicams; aims to capture 10% market share by year end
Nikon India, the 100% subsidiary of the imaging industry leader - Nikon Corporation, has launched eight new models of its flagship Coolpix brand of digital cameras in the Indian market.
The new range is priced between Rs 7,450-Rs 25,950.
The company, which commands five percent market share in the Indian compact camera market, is targeting to double it by year-end. In addition, it is also targeting 30% growth in revenues this fiscal as against 50% in 2008-09.
Japanese camera maker Nikon is currently importing cameras from Japan and China. The company said in a reply to a query, that it does not have any immediate plans to start manufacturing units in India as the demand was still low.
However, Nikon plans to scale up the headcount in India by 25% this fiscal to leverage its operations in the country,
According to estimates, around one million compact cameras are sold in the Indian market a year.
