Microsoft Might Launch Social Networking Phone in U.S
Software giant Microsoft is reportedly working towards unveiling its own mobile phones in the U. S. later this year in a bid to challenge the emerging smartphone dominance of its main competitors Apple and Google, the technology blog Gizmodo posted on Friday.
In addition, it is reported that the handsets will be available in the market in July exclusively on Verizon, the largest cellphone carrier in the U. S., targeting heavy users of social networks.
The report featured, what it said were leaked images from the phones' marketing campaign. The two phones are codenamed Pink and Pure, and are revealed to be manufactured for the software giant by Sharp.
The report emerged post Microsoft last month launching a new mobile operating system, which grabbed a wide appraisal from the technology pundits.
Microsoft used to be the leader in the smartphone arena but has witnessed its position severely blemished by Apple's iPhone, by the Blackberry and by numerous devices running Google's Android operating system.
