Maharashtra Government Signs Education Alliance with Microsoft

Computer giant Microsoft India Pvt. Ltd and Maharashtra government have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to mutually co-operate in the education sector. Microsoft will help to adopt ICT in government schools and work toward enhancing skills of workforce in the state.

Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Minister for Education, Government of Maharashtra, said, "IT education and access to the latest IT tools and software will go a long way towards giving them a competitive advantage. We look forward to Microsoft's expertise in this area."

The state has already signed a successful MoU with the company under which it has been working towards ICT adopting project by setting up three state-of-the-arts IT academies in Pune, Nagpur and Aurangabad. Over 92,000 students have already been trained. The effort has worked towards enhancing employability potential of over 46,00,000 students.

The company will now add more academies and is expected to train 6000 teachers and 100,000 pre-service teachers, building last mile capacity among teachers by imparting a 10-day training module in a classroom setup.

Microsoft will also help to setup the Microsoft Digital Literacy curriculum (DLC) that will help students to acquire computing skills using multimedia based module.

BMW introduces 3-Series Touring

Germany-based luxury car maker BMW recently took wraps off its fifth-generation 3 Series Touring, which is more spacious inside than ever before.

The all-new 2013 3 Series Touring sedan is longer than the predecessor by 97mm, and its height is 11mm more at 1429mm.

Its 50mm longer wheelbase than the previous Touring allows it to provide an extra 35 litres of storage with the rear seats up. With the seats folded down, the new vehicle promises 1500 litres of space in total.

The 2013 3 Series Touring will be available in a choice of three advanced, powerful, yet economic engines.
