Jet announces 10% discount on economy class tickets

With the lean travel season approaching fast, the Jet Airways (India) Ltd on Friday joined other airlines in offering attractive discounts on tickets for a limited period.

Jet slashed fares by 10 per cent for the economy class on its international network. The discount is available on tickets for travelling between 1 February and 15 April. Moreover, passengers must book tickets between January 24 and 26.

The country's largest airline by passengers carried also introduced 30-day advance purchase scheme on domestic flights of its no-frills subsidiary Jet Konnect. Like the offers by most other airlines, this scheme offers tickets for travel up to April 15.

Earlier, Air India, SpiceJet, IndiGo and GoAir also announced discounts on their tickets. Air India announced a 'Spring Sale' scheme, which offered discounts of up to 50 per cent on all tickets for domestic travel.

Budget carrier SpiceJet also announced discounts of up to 50 per cent on base fares on tickets booked at least 30 days in advance of travel. No-frill carrier IndiGo and GoAir also launched similar schemes.

Ticket booking websites enjoyed an upswing in bookings soon after the announcements of these schemes by the airlines.

Commenting on the discounts, MakeMyTrip CEO Rajesh Magow said, "We have seen a very enthusiastic response to the sale, with visitors to the website and ticket-sales increasing on the second day. These promotions are resulting in many people planning impulse holidays."

The airlines announced discounts as they are all set to enter the lean season after the peak October-December quarter when air travel typically grows on account of festive season and year-end holidays.
