IT Job Sector Swings to Improvement, 20,000 to be Hired by Infosys
On the back of an improving IT job market, and the fact that the world is out of recession, although the hurt lingers in bouts, Infosys HR Director Mohandas Pai has confirmed that over the coming months, as many as 2-2.5 lakh IT sector related job opportunities will be emerging, and Infosys is planning on hiring nearly 20,000 employees as the 2010 fiscal year rolls-in.
"The job scenario is improving... this year the market is likely to see around 2-2.5-lakh jobs", Mr. Pai said, while quickly asserting that although improvements have been seen, the market will not be as strong and opportunistic as it was two years ago. Until two years back, there were about 3-4 lakh IT jobs available on the market.
Mr. Pai, while sharing Infosys's plan to open about 20,000 job opportunities, shared that campus recruitment would be lower this year as compared to last year. "This year, Infosys will be hiring around 20,000 as against 16,000 that we recruited last year. Campus recruitments this year, however, will be less", he was quoted as saying. No exact number, however, was mentioned on the campus placement front.
According to official figures reported, as of October 1, Infosys had granted promotions and salary hikes to about 7-8% of its Indian employees, and 2% of the overseas staff.
