IIM-A students come up with ideas for SMEs to save energy

iim-ahmedabadThe students at the one of the most reputed institute of India, IIM Ahmedabad have come forward with creative yet viable ideas to help the SME sector to save energy in order to contribute in the noble cause of maintaining a greener earth.

A group of three students from the institute's executive management program, who have worked in US and Europe for more than ten years have decided to start a business venture that will help the small and medium enterprises to implement better energy efficiency mechanism. They are working towards assisting the SMEs to follow the techniques which will help them in saving the 20% cost of the energy usage.

One more student has been planning to start manufacturing controllers, which are used in the wind mills. For this business, he is planning to enter a joint venture deal with a Danish firm to acquire license of this technology so that he could produce the controllers in India.

Mnaish Sharma, who is an IIT Delhi graduate and has worked in the USA for 13 years before joining IIM-A, said that the consultants have been misleading the SMEs due to which they are not much interested in the energy efficiency measures but they are encouraging the SMEs to save energy and get carbon credits.

Visal Doshi, who worked with Barclays Capital in the US for three years before joining IIM-A, is not interested in getting a lucrative job offer but he want to commence his own business in the wind energy sector. He said that there are very few companies working in the field and he has plan to start accompany to manufacture the wind mill components. For this he is trying to make a joint venture deal with Danish firm.

In addition to that Visal Doshi is also working simultaneously on the idea of setting a BPO that will help the companies to support their business by distributing information of the company through the social media sites like twitter, Linkedin, facebook etc.

While informing about this idea, Vishal Doshi said, "Our BPO service will focus on aggregating, filtering and consolidating information present in social media and looping it back to the originator of the product/service, in the process helping build its reputation and brand. The service will help companies reduce cost on the activities and bring in expertise."
