Google working with Intel, Sony and Logitech to bring web software on TV
Google Inc in association with Intel Corp., Sony Corp. and Logitech International SA is working to bring web software on TV by developing a new television platform.
The project called, Google TV will see Intel chips along with a chip developed by the Logitech that operates as a remote control, indicated a source. Google is trying to expand its business presence in markets beyond the internet applications.
The company will join others like Yahoo, TiVo, Rovi and Microsoft in bringing internet to the TV. Analysts believe that this indicates the expanding internet beyond the PC and mobile spaces.
Google entered the mobile market in 2008 with its Android operating system which has now become popular among many handset manufacturers. The New York times have reported about the company's plans however none of the companies involved declined to comment.
The shares of Google rose 0.1 percent to close at $565.56 on the Nasdaq Stock Market yesterday. Intel rose advanced 1.1 percent and Sony gained 0.9 percent on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Sony, the third largest TV maker is turning around its business and has introduced advanced TV model. It said that it is aiming to make its TV operations profitable by March 2011.
Intel generates 90 percent of its revenue from PC chips and it plans to expand business by making its processors a part of the home appliances.
