Google+ may reach 400 million users by 2012 end
According to an independent analysis of the growth of the Google+ social-networking service, at least 625,000 new users are signing up for Google+ which appears to be on track to boast a total of approximately 400 million members by the end of 2012.
As per the information shared by Ancestry. com's founder Paul B. Allen, who is the "unofficial statistician" keeping track of the Google+ numbers, the recent weeks have witnessed a notable increase in the popularity of Google+, with nearly 25 percent of its total user base signing up for the service in December alone.
The new user additions to the Google+ site is highly noteworthy in the wake of the fact that the service was launched for the public this September; and it had 40 million users in October.
The key objective behind Google's launch of its own social network apparently was to take on the currently-dominating Facebook social network which has over 800 million users; and is mulling a $100 billion initial public offering
(IPO) next year.
Noting that the number of new members joining Google+ every day has undoubtedly "accelerated markedly in the past several weeks," Allen said that the huge numbers of new signs up could have resulted from several factors, including "the holidays, the TV commercials, the Android 4 sign-ups, celebrity and brand appeal, or positive word of mouth or a combination of all these factors."
