Google to launch low cost version of Nexus One phone
The Nexus One phone of Google is already available for sale in some countries around the world and the company is now reportedly planning to launch it's scaled down model in the Indian market and possibly in other developing markets.
The scaled down Nexus One is believed to be thinner than the other version and will also cut down on features. It will offer fewer features and hence will be priced very less as compared to the original Nexus One.
The rumor has originated from the networking site twitter where a TV producer reportedly posted a comment relating to a scaled down version. It shows the significant Google attaches to the developing markets.
Google's strategy in India has largely been bringing more customers to be able to use its services through platforms such as Android or through its attempts at experimental fiber networks. The company has not concentrated its efforts on the margins unlike other high tech brands like Apple with products prices at a very high level.
India has emerged as the fastest growing telecom market as it adds around 18 million mobile subscribers every month. About 127 million wireless subscribers access data services in the country because of which it has emerged as an important market for mobile advertising and other services.
Google is also seeing high usage of its internet based services from the country. A report in September 2009 has estimated that Internet users in India spent up to a third of their online time on Google sites.
Google is already trying out various offering in India such as Google Phone Search, Google SMS Search, Google SMS Channels and launching the new phone in the country fits its vision.
India will not be the only country where such slimmed phones will be launched. The low cost version will also be launched in other developing markets such as Brazil.
