Google India's Report Gives Peek into What the Indians are searching for
The year end Zeitgeist (German for "the spirit of the times") has been unveiled by Google India, giving everyone a peek into what Indians across the country have been searching for during the year.
Before actually giving out the results, Google did say that the tool "can never be used to identify individual users because we rely on anonymised, aggregated counts of how often certain search queries occur over time". After exploration and analysis of over a billion search queries received every year, the Zeitgeist is compiled.
Budget 2009 and Satyam share prices emerged as the fastest rising searches, implying that the recession and its effects were clearly on the Indians' minds during the year. Social networking websites and young and charismatic politicians also attracted their fair share of queries, and Rahul Gandhi and Sachin Pilot emerged as the new face of "political leadership in the country".
While Love Aaj Kal came out as the most searched for movie of 2009, Katrina Kaif managed to rule the minds of the population for the second consecutive year as the most searched for star.
''The Google India Zeitgeist provides a reflection of what was on people's minds in 2009. Besides serving as a great indicator of what made news through the year, Zeitgeist 2009 also provides a unique perspective on what clicked with people and the way they consumed information on the internet", said Vinay Goel, Head of Products, and Google India.
