Delhi’s Metro Rail has crossed 1 billion passenger mark
The Delhi Metro railway announced its achievement of going up to the level of 1 billion passengers traveled on its vast networks since 25th December 2002, when it started, on Thursday.
The spokesperson of Delhi Rail Metro Corporation said, “We crossed the one billion mark on Thursday. The figure is almost equivalent to the population of the country. Today it stretches across 90 km and by October next year another 100 km would be added to the metro’s growing network.”
The expansion of the network also includes the increase in the passengers, from 35,000 seven years ago to 9 lakh presently.
After the just-ended trade fair, the Delhi Metro’s record registered a ridership of 1,014,955,894 on Thursday, which is believed to be the highest ever since the metro was commenced in Delhi.
The DMRC officials signaled the inclusion of new trains to the system on every fortnight. Already 17 trains for broad gauge and another 10 trains for standard gauge are running for metro rail and 131 new trains which will be delivered before 2010 end.
