CBSE sends guidelines on grading system to affiliated schools
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has sent the guidelines on grading system to the affiliated institutions. The circular contains a detailed description of the new examination pattern and the ways to assess performance of a student.
Earlier, CBSE had decided to adopt a grading system for class X instead of the current board system to reduce the examination pressure on the students.
Mr. Kapil Sibal, HRD Minister made the announcement about the examination reforms.
The government has planned to switch over to the grading system from the October month of this year, and the Class-X board exam will be scrapped from 2011. In addition to grading system, the government will also start a school-based evaluation system for the students, which will cover every phase of their development.
Under the switching process, CBSE has already rolled out the road map for a Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system. The CCE system will be implemented from the next month for the students who are presently studying in class IX. The system will evaluate students on the basis of their performance in curricular and co-curricular activities.
However, there is a provision available for those students who want to go with the board examination. The interested students can go for board exams under the scheme “exam on demand”.
