Call of Duty Records First Day Sales of $310 Million Across North America and UK
After a mere 24 hours of its release, Activision's video game Call of the Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has managed to break all first day sales records, registering sales of nearly $310 Million in North America and UK alone. As per figures shared by the company on Thursday, the game sold a whopping 4.7 million copies in North America and Britain within 24 hours of its release. Sales figures for other countries have not been shared yet.
Estimates had been made that the latest Call of Duty edition would match the sales of GTA IV released last year, which was pegged the most successful video game with regards to first day sales, actual figures have surpassed the GTA IV target by a large margin. While GTA had sold 3.6 million units around the world on its release day, Call of Duty has sold many more in America and UK alone.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been priced at $60 and is supported by Windows based PCs, the XBox 360 and PlayStation 3.
In lieu of the grand opening, Activision shares surged by 6 cents to close at a trading rate of $11.44 on Thursday.
