BSNL to launch its WiMAX Services Nationwide
The State-owned telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has introduced its first commercial WiMAX, the 4th Generation Wireless Broadband Service, in Rajasthan with speed up to 7 mbps with a view to empower the rural India with High Speed Super Fast Internet.
BSNL has kept a very low rent of just Rs 140 per month for rural areas for the WiMAX Broadband service, which is the cheapest price at the moment. BSNL has planned to initially erect 200 WiMAX BTS in the states including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, and has announced that services in 1,000 Block Headquarters will be soon launched across India.
BSNL has targeted the WiMAX against the company's objective of rural empowerment. The WiMAX service will provide services like video conferencing, tele-medicine service and tele-education and will provide other services through local administrative body i. e. Panchayat Samiti (Block Headquarters) like payment of utility bills, issue of birth certificates, land records, on line vehicle registration etc.
Putting light on the aim of the launch of the WiMAX service, Mr. Sachin Pilot said, "This unique technology has been deployed for the first time in our country. Through this BSNL will usher in a new era of growth in rural areas."
