Anonymous hackers sneak onto conference call between FBI and foreign law-enforcement agencies
On Friday, computer hacking group Anonymous said in a notably haughty announcement that it had eavesdropped on a conference call – concerning how to tackle the cyber-pirate group - between the FBI, Scotland Yard and other overseas law-enforcement agencies, including those in Ireland, Germany, France, Sweden, and the Netherlands.
In a proof that Anonymous had sneaked onto the high-profile conference call between FBI and the foreign law-enforcement agencies, the hacking group posted, on YouTube and some other sites, a 16-minute recording of the talks, which primarily focused on sharing of intelligence reports about two UK teenagers - Ryan Cleary and Jake Davis - supposedly linked to Anonymous.
The recording is abound in updates about widespread investigations currently underway by the law-enforcement agencies; and it also has one of the members of Scotland Yard's central e-crime division apprising FBI about the British police’s identification of a 15-year-old teenager who allegedly is associated with a recent breach at US videogame firm, Valve Corp.
Acknowledging the fact that the recording posted by Anonymous hackers was authentic, the FBI said that the hacking group had “illegally obtained” the recording which was “intended for law enforcement officers only.”
However, trying to brush aside the incident, the FBI also said in a statement that the eavesdropping incident was not a major episode on the cyberstealth front; and added that a criminal investigation had already been initiated into the sneak “to identify and hold accountable those responsible.”
