27% Increase in Number of Passengers Recorded by Indian Airlines for October
October was a month of celebration for Indian Airlines, and festivals were not the only reasons. India's domestic airline industry saw a whopping 27% rise in the number of passengers for the month this year as compared to last year. For October 2008, a passenger number of 31.33 lakh was recorded, in contrast to the current year's October number of 39.69 lakh travelers.
As confirmed by the data shared by the Director-General of Civil Aviation, the number of passengers who flew via 8 different domestic airlines for October has been the highest recorded so far for the year. Till now May's number of 39.29 lakh was the highest which now comes in a close second.
Although the good news has delighted airlines all over the country, the industry is still treading cautiously and hoping that this was not just an effect of the holiday season and the growth stays. "Almost all airlines are reporting healthier passenger loads since last month. We are all hoping that the situation stabilizes. Business is bouncing back but it is still too early to say that revival has started", said an official of a private sector airline.
Chennai based Paramount was the only domestic airline that recorded a fall in the number of passenger for October this year (61,000) as compared to the same month last year (70,000).
